2018-2019 Undergraduate Library Fellow Applications
The Library is pleased to announce eight Library Undergraduate Fellowship opportunities for 2018-2019. These fellowships seek to promote peer-to-peer learning and mentorship opportunities in areas of digital scholarship and library research.
Fellowship applications have a priority deadline April 29, 11:59pm.

Data Peer Advising Fellows (2 available)
Provide leadership and peer support in the data sciences to undergraduates conducting research in an area such as data visualization, machine learning, text analysis, regression modeling, or other data science methods. For questions, contact Josh Quan, Data Services Librarian
Digital Humanities Fellow
Provide peer support for digital scholarship to undergraduates in an area such as web design, multimedia production, network analysis, text analysis, digital archives, or other DH methods. For questions, contact Stacy Reardon, Literatures and Digital Humanities Librarian.
GIS Fellow
Provide peer support for undergraduates working with geospatial data using either desktop GIS tools or programming packages. For questions, contact Susan Powell, GIS and Map Librarian..
Students who are interested in, and qualified for, more than one fellowship area may apply for multiple fellowships. No student will be awarded more than one fellowship position at a time.
Each fellow will receive:
- Full award of $3,500 (two stipends of $1,750, paid at the end of each semester)
- Training in library/research skills, consultation best practices, digital publishing & multimedia, data & GIS, and scholarly publishing for digital scholarship
- Networking opportunities with librarians, and campus partners including D-Lab, Digital Humanities, Research IT, and others
- Mentorship and discovery opportunities
Each fellow will offer some combination of (about four hours per week):
- Consultation hours in their field of expertise
- Developing instructional materials (e.g. training sessions/workshops for undergraduates)
- Creation of instructional materials on Level Up and/or Data Peers website
- Participation in brown-bag discussion with librarians and campus partner staff
- Share their story, and insights about their experience with the Library
All fellows will be required to attend eight hours of in-person training in August 2018, before the Fall semester begins. Exact dates to be determined.
Eligibility
Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at UC Berkeley in Fall 2018 and Spring 2019, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 to serve as a Fellow.
